Buttermilk Cornbread from Scratch

Cornbread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup yellow corn meal
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Directions:

Cream the butter and sugar together until it is light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat thoroughly. Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt together and add them to the bowl alternately with some buttermilk and some corn meal, beating until smooth after each addition until all has been added.

Put in a greased 9' x 12' x 2" pan and bake at 375 for 20 to 25 minutes or until done. Serve hot with butter.
