A Springtime in Paris Party in Your Kitchen

Tips and Tricks Kitchen Design and Style

Spring is in the air--and for those of us in the Northeast and Midwest, it feels like we haven't seen or felt springtime in years! The best way to celebrate this season filled with flowers and love is to throw a party and invite all of your friends over to enjoy to warmer weather making its way over.

This season’s hottest trend is “Springtime in Paris” themed designs, accessories—and best of all—parties. If you haven’t been to Paris to experience the city of love in all its blooming beauty, you can bring some joi de vivre to your kitchen with a Springtime in Paris themed brunch. Today’s blog will give you all the tips and tricks you need to plan your next brunch with a French twist.

The Décor

Springtime in Paris means two things when it comes to design: fresh flowers and soft hues. You can create a simple centerpiece of purple lilacs and white lily of the valley; pair these complimentary flowers with sheer tablecloths in pale pink atop small, round tables. The key to French décor is to keep the tables small and intimate for an entertaining experience filled with love.

Rather than spending your time setting the table, and then carefully filling each plate with food, make your brunch a buffet-style affair. Make use of your countertop space to fill with food, and if you have an island or dining nook, convert that space into a Parisian wine or cappuccino bar.

The Food

Nothing says Springtime in Paris quite like French food, and this is easily achieved with a simple brunch menu. Begin the buffet line with an assortment of French cheeses (most local supermarkets have an artisan cheese section), which pair well with fresh berries. Simple poached eggs topped with crème fresh and green onion make an easy main dish, and a round of Brie with fig jam and baked in puff pastry is a wonderful brunch-time treat. Don’t forget to stop by your favorite bakery to pick up plenty of French baguettes.

The Drinks

Creating a custom wine or cappuccino bar in your kitchen will make your Springtime in Paris themed brunch a true Parisian event. To create a traditional French wine bar, it’s best to buy three different types of wine—a white, a rose, and a red. Don’t worry about spending extra money on expensive French wine; any wine that you like to drink is a great choice. Rather than leave the bottles out, transfer each bottle to a carafe, and keep the white and rose carafes on ice in a vintage metal bucket. If you’d rather not serve wine, you can make a cappuccino or coffee bar by offering many toppings, like a sprinkle of cinnamon, or my favorite, some shaved dark chocolate. Whether you make a wine or cappuccino bar, be sure to fill a pitcher with fresh limonade (a French drink made with lemonade and sparkling water) for your guests.
