Romantic Kitchen Design Ideas

Kitchen Design and Style

We’ve been in business for over 35 years, and after installing over 50,000 kitchens, we’ve learned quite a bit about the different types of homeowners out there looking for new kitchens and just what types of designs each homeowner is looking for in their dream kitchen. One of the most popular types of homeowners looking to remodel their kitchens is sometimes known as “empty nesters.”

While the term empty nesters might mean lonely or even, I dare say, old, to some people, to the Kitchen Magic Family, we see empty nesters as adults ready for a new adventure and more time to enjoy together as a couple. This may mean that the kids have finally gone off to college or started families of their own, that retirement brings the opportunity to complete long-awaited home improvement projects, or that it’s simply time to finally build that dream kitchen.

Some of our favorite design ideas for the busy couple that’s finally found time to spend together, are romantic kitchen ideas designed for two. Today, we’re going to share some of our favorite ways to incorporate these romantic touches into your dream kitchen remodel—empty nester or not!

Custom Wine Rack

Out with the extra storage space for lunch boxes and sandwich bags, the extra-large pantry stuffed with after school snacks, and in with a custom wine rack or cooler. A romantic kitchen should be a space where you can relax, enjoy a glass of wine and some quiet conversation with your sweetie. If chilled white wine is your style, go for a small wine cooler or refrigerator that can be installed right into your island or lower cabinets. If you prefer red wine, you can install a custom wine rack or other type of wine storage along your upper cabinets to keep your red wine ready and beautifully displayed.

Breakfast Bar

If it’s just the two of you, then there’s no need to set the large kitchen or dining room table for family breakfast or dinner. Instead, have a beautiful breakfast bar installed right into your kitchen. The new addition will make your kitchen feel grander and more romantic, and you can have more intimate candlelit dinners right in your beautiful kitchen.

Chandeliers

When your kitchen acts mainly as a place for food and function, lighting usually makes it to the bottom of the design list. One of the easiest ways to make your kitchen design more romantic is to switch out your current lighting fixtures with a chandelier. Large lighting fixtures like chandeliers or drop-down pendant lights will soften the overall light in the space and add a comforting, romantic touch.

Soft Shades

Traditional kitchen designs are most commonly equated with romantic styles. The softer shades and warmer colors of traditional designs make for a more intimate space. Think Antique White cabinets with a Walnut Glaze or Cordovan on Cherry cabinets with neutrally colored countertops like Granite in New Venecian Gold. Also, you can re-upholster your kitchen chairs or stools with warm fabric for something softer to the touch.
