Here's a hair-raising kitchen renovation story from one of our readers. It's the distressing tale of a kitchen remodeling fail!
I bought cabinets, a sink, a faucet and a countertop from {name of home center} and hired a contractor to install them for what was supposed to be a two-week job. It turned out to be three months of hell.
The contractors didn't have a permit before they started the work, and they tracked their dirt in on my new carpets. They left a hot glue gun dripping on my new sink and were very un-professional. I contacted the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint, then contacted the State Attorney General's office. I also contacted the State Contractor's Board and filed a complaint which got them 9 serious violations. Very shoddy work.
Please warn every consumer about this. I got taken good for over $6,000.
We hate hearing stories like this, and we hear them far too often. You can avoid this sort of problem by taking the time to have free consultations with several local contractors. Ask them pertinent questions about their business and background, and compare them apples-to-apples so you can determine which is the best fit for your kitchen's needs.
You want someone who will do the job right, the first time. The unfortunate truth is that not all contractors are reliable, and it takes time and research to identify those whom are worth the investment. But, the payoff is abundant! Having your kitchen renovated with quality craftsmanship is a far superior and cost-effective outcome than having a second remodel to correct the first one. Be savvy when shopping for a kitchen design-builder. Ask for customer reviews and credentials, and enjoy the assurance of knowing you hired an accountable company for the ever-important undertaking of remodeling your kitchen.
