Question
I have always had what my friends call "interesting" tastes in color and style. My current kitchen is all bland, blah safe colors. Now that I am thinking of redoing my kitchen, I have some very definite ideas about what I want it to look out. But a friend of mine said that I should settle for a bland kitchen, because a flamboyant one might make the resale value of my home lower. Is this a valid concern?

Answer
Julia, resale value is something to think about IF you are thinking of moving in the near future. If you think you're going to want your house on the market in the near future, then you will probably want to stay safe with more common colors and styles. If you want to update the kitchen for immediate sales, Kitchen Magic offers an economical refacing program with several design options sure to appeal to potential home buyers.
But if you plan to stay in your home, there's no reason you can't go as wild as you wish. Many homeowners delight in a room that reflects their personality and taste. Assuming you are happy with the layout of the kitchen, refacing your cabinets and adding a new countertop can make a dramatic difference.
